I have been in the process of overhauling my home network and home lab into an "always available" and "always online" resource I can remotely connect to from anywhere. My main reasoning behind this is that I want to have the same compute power and experience I get while locally connected while I am remotely connected traveling or in a coffee shop. I don't want to be limited to my laptop resources while participating in CTFs or attending conferences. Some additional benefits are: - Save money on laptop upgrades (see [[Framework Laptop]]) - I can invest more money into server compute power (see [[Home Lab]]) - Remote "cloud" gaming! ### Network Diagram ![[ZoomDarkBG.png]] ### Ubiquiti and Unifi Ecosystem I decided to use Ubiquiti networking gear as the backbone of my home network. While less common in large enterprises, Ubiquiti is still fairly common in medium to small enterprises due to their cost effectiveness and great software support. I want to run my home network like a small to medium size enterprise so this was a pretty great choice. Ubiquiti also comes with the Unifi to manage all of the hardware in my network. The mobile application as well as Unifi Cloud Gateway access are phenomenal for managing my network remotely and configuring it on the fly. ### WireGuard I configured my Ubiquiti Cloud Gateway Ultra with a WireGuard server so that I can add my Pixel 10 Pro Fold and my Framework 13 Laptop as WireGuard clients for remote VPN access. ### Sunshine and Moonlight Sunshine and Moonlight have been a HUGE game changer for me as I am an avid gamer. [Sunshine](https://app.lizardbyte.dev/Sunshine/?lng=en) is the self hosted game stream host program that runs on your gaming PC and [Moonlight](https://moonlight-stream.org/#) is the streaming client program. Moonlight can be installed on all kinds of things like laptops, phones, smart TVs, Amazon Firesticks, steam decks and even $60 GameBoy emulators like my [[Anbernic RG35XXSP]]! This means that you can stream games from your gaming PC with Sunshine to any device that is running Moonlight. All of the game's processing power needs are handled by your gaming PC and Sunshine/Moonlight stream the video output and handle the remote USB/Keyboard/Mouse inputs for a very low latency gaming experience! ![[LivingRoomMoonlight.jpg]] Playing World of Warcraft on my living room TV while my gaming PC is downstairs :) ### Home Lab Server Last but not least, every home network deserves a good server. The server deserves it's own section so check out my write-up on my [[Home Lab]].
